Almost exactly a year ago, we kicked off a series of charity screenings in support of the Library Project, a charity that donates libraries to elementary schools in rural China.

We wanted mostly to bring attention to a great little charity that is doing wonderful work in the area of literacy and education.

The very first of the 5 libraries that we’d be donating has been set up. Xiang Zi Cha Elementary School is located in rural Lantian County in the Shaanxi Province of China. The school has only 4 students in grades 1 and 2.

Bringing joy to these 4 kids is an amazing privilege and we look forward to the launch of the other 4 libraries.

But the greater joy is knowing that the Library Project has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year, from 15 libraries to more than 120 libraries. And there is still so much to be done!

It is perhaps apt that this documentary about the Beijing Olympics will end its run right before the summer games are about to start. When we started this series of screenings at Salud in Nanluoguxiang, Dongcheng District, many people told us that it is not feasible to screen an independent documentary for so many consecutive weeks in China. Most indie films are shown once or twice and then they are never heard of again.

We are glad we persisted with the screenings. Please do tell your friends about our final set of screenings during the weekend before the Olympics.

Date: Sat Aug 2nd and Sun Aug 3rd
Time: 3 pm
Admission: 50 RMB. Proceeds go towards The Library Project.

For full details of the screenings, check out our posting on City Weekend Beijing.
